Where do you want to go with your career? Maybe you may want to move up in management. Or, maybe you want to develop new skills and get exposed to new experiences. Because everyone has different long-term goals, we offer many ways for our people to fully use and build their talents, such as:

  • Mentoring interns and new associates
  • Serving as training ambassadors and leading training classes
  • Taking on new responsibilities and challenging assignments
  • Changing roles altogether
  • Moving into management
  • Relocating to a larger property or a different part of the U.S.

Of course, we also offer formal training, including:

Leadership development programs

We created a unique leadership development program to help our managers improve their existing leadership skills and build new ones. The courses are conducted throughout the year for 25 to 30 managers at a time. Several versions of the program are offered, depending on job level.

Passport classes

Passport classes are skills development courses for our property teams. The classes range from three hours to four days. Available in introductory, intermediate and advanced levels, the classes are generally offered monthly in our major markets.

Maintenance training

In Washington, D.C., we created a hands-on Service Training Facility for our maintenance employees. Complete with a classroom area, a mock-up shop, and major equipment, the space is equipped for a variety of classes. Regional maintenance managers and field trainers lead the courses.

Management development program

In this program, associates from nationally recognized MBA programs rotate through three major functional areas of our organization: investments, operations and finance. (Rotations in each functional area last about 6 to 12 months.) During the rotations, these associates are given the opportunity to work on a variety of challenging assignments with our senior executives.
